If you are good enough to continue to make the grade through the classes then you can aim for the West Australian State squad. Playing cricket in Perth is usually done on the weekends with games played at many of the high school and local recreational council grounds.

You can play cricket in Perth in any one of the many grades. There are several cricket associations to play with many people playing suburban turf cricket called the WACA District Competition. This is WA’s leading club cricket competition.

There are 16 WACA District Clubs battling out for the premiership, a competition that has been running since 1885.

The Carlton Mid Colts competition is restricted to players under 21 years of age and gives young cricketers the opportunity to develop into senior cricketers. There are also competitions held for under 15 and under 17 age groups with kids playing on Saturday and Sundays in the quest for representative honours.

Perth Sports like Cricket give youngsters the incentive to succeed and represent their state at the highest level. This has helped the Western Australian cricket team produce outstanding young cricketers for a long period of time. They have tasted more than their fair share of success winning the Pura Cup competition, formerly the Sheffield Shield, 15 times.

Perth Sports revolve around the AFL Football season during the winter and cricket during the hot Australian summer. The annual Test Match and one day international fixtures at the WACA ground are always sold out affairs with the local players well supported by a partisan home crowd.

Women’s cricket is not forgotten in Western Australia with the Western Fury the name of the female cricket team in WA. They play against NSW, SA, VIC and QLD for the “Ruth Preddy Trophy” which goes to the winner of the Women’s National Cricket League.
