Perth Sports Football
For some people there are just two AFL football teams when talking about Perth sports. The West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers are the states two AFL teams who represent the state in the Australian Football League. The West Coast Eagles are the more successful of the two identities having won the AFL premiership on three occasions while the Fremantle Dockers are yet to open their account.
The West Coast Eagles was the first of the West Australian clubs to enter the AFL competition. The Eagles were formed in 1986 and joined what was the then Victorian Football League (VFL). The Eagles claimed the third of their premierhsips in 2006 with a thrilling one point win over the Sydney Swans who had beaten the West Coast Eagles in the 2005 Grand Final by four points.
The Eagles have produced some outstanding footballers during their short existence. Club captain Chris Judd and Ben Cousins have both won Brownlow Medals.

The Fremantle Football Club was the 15t team to join the AFL competition and has been dogged by a string of poor decisions throughout its history. Consistently trading away early draft picks for average players the Dockers failed to make the most of any concessions they had when joining the AFL in 1995.
The Dockers, also known as "Freo", achieved their best result in season 2005 when they finished 3rd of 16 after the home and away only to finish the year in fourth place after being beaten by Sydney.
The Fremantle Dockers had the chance in 2006 to go the next step but a poor opening game of the season was a blow they never recovered from with coach Chris Connolly resigning to be replaced by former Essendon hardman Mark Harvey.
Harvey was appointed as a caretaker coach until the end of the season but after winning two of his opening three games as the head coach, including wins over the Adelaide Crows in Adelaide and the West Coast Eagles in the Western Derby, it’s highly unlikely that the job will go to anyone else if Harvey wants to be the fulltime coach.
